WEB3 / RESEARCH IN PRACTICE
Investigating Web3 Systems
Implementation-level research across Web3 systems, with a documented investigation as one example.
The investigation
Our Web3 research follows the behavior each system depends on: validator decisions, consensus, transaction execution, state, and the interfaces between components. The selected project summaries on Our Work include Critical and High findings; the impact areas shown there stay within their approved public scope.
One documented investigation
In one three-month study of a Go-based Layer 1, we reviewed source code, studied 150 publicly documented issues and commits, and grouped them into 28 failure patterns. That reference corpus informed the questions we asked of the implementation. Each candidate still had to be traced through the actual code and tested against its behavior.
We used a Linux environment built with Docker and shell scripts to reproduce candidate behavior locally and separate suspected failures from observed effects.
